This article covers some common errors with PayPal transactions and offers a troubleshooting guide.

Payment has already been made for this InvoiceID

You may be using this PayPal account for another store, or perhaps you've used it in the past. You can edit your order ID format so that PayPal will allow you to use this information for your   account.

Change Your PayPal Order ID

Order IDs use the format #1001. For each order the number increases by one increment. Change #{{number}} to another format such as ##{{number}} or ID{{number}}. Do not change {{number}} as this creates the increments for your Order ID's automatically.

  1. In your PayPal account, go to Preferences and then General Settings.
  2. Under Adjust your standards and formats, click the formatting link beside Order ID.
  3. In the field, edit your Order ID format.
  4. Click Save.

Paypal Orders Not Showing

There may be a delay in the PayPal IPN (Instant Payment Notification) service, which verifies completed orders in the Website Payments Standard package. Website Payments Pro does not use IPN service; therefore, orders appear immediately.

Invalid Vendor Account

If you receive the message "Invalid Vendor Account," you may have failed input your credentials correctly. Check your Payment setup in   to make sure the information you entered matches your PayPal account information.

This transaction cannot be processed due to an invalid merchant configuration

Please complete the following checklist:

          ·       Make sure you've signed up with PayPal Payments Pro. This is a services provided on top of the standard PayPal package and costs approximately 30$ USD a month.

          ·       Have agreed to the billing agreement of PayPal Payments Pro?

          ·       Have the correct PayPal email address entered in your  ?

          ·       Have given our PayPal API account the appropriate API permissions, as described below?


Grant PowerStores the appropriate API authentication permissions (Third-party authentication):

  1. Log in to your PayPal account and click  Profile .

  2. Click the API Access link in the Account Information column.

  3. Click Grant API Permission .

  4. In the Enter an API Partner Username field, enter

  5. Select the box for each of the following API permissions:

    • Express_Checkout

    • Direct_Payment

    • Admin_API

    • Auth_Settle

  6. Click Submit. 

Error from gateway: Too many requests for operation

This error occurs when too many request have been sent to PayPal too quickly. PayPal mistakes this for a type of spam attack. Wait a few hours and try again later, or contact PayPal and have them reset the account.

Testing PayPal

You can test PayPal Credit Card processing.

  1. Creating a test product (enter a price of at least $2.00).

  2. Purchasing the test product from your own store.
